Miami Men Top Ball State

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Miami University men's swimming and diving team cruised past Ball State for a conference victory in the final meet of the regular season. The men won by a 217-81 margin.

The RedHawks earned a win in 14 of the 16 events in the meet, with 13 different athletes earning a win. Miami swept the diving competition, placing in the top three spots in both the 1-mtr and 3-mtr. Harrison Moncino was victorious in the 1-mtr (295.43) with Ryan Nash finishing second and Sam Wiedemann finishing third. Nash took victory in the 3-mtr (292.05) with Wiedemann and Moncino finishing second and third, respectively.

The RedHawks had the top three finishes in three swimming events as well. In the 200 free, Gordon Wheeler finished first (1:45.67) with Justin Andrews in second and Nick Ward in third. Wheeler also claimed the top time in the 500 free, with Jake Precious and Austin Theobald right behind him. In the 100 fly, Iago Moussalem was the fastest (50.82), with Peter Simcox and Spencer Klinsky rounding out the top three.

Kayky Mota made his Miami debut, winning two events - the 200 fly (1:52.55) and the 200 IM (1:53.17). Mota's 200 IM time is the fastest time on the team this season. Klinsky finished behind Mota in the 200 fly to claim second.

Miami had the winning relay team in both the 200 medley relay (1:36.12) and the 200 free relay (1:24.20). Precious, Thomas Blackstone (Hutch), Moussalem and Ward made up the 200 medley relay team. Ward, Chase Bettner, Diego GonzÃÆ'Æ'¡lez Valentim and Ross Westrick made up the 200 free relay team.

Other first-place finishes include Theobald in the 1000 free (10:01.16), Precious in the 100 back (53.22), Blackstone in the 100 breast (58.32), Valentim in the 100 free (46.54) and Martin Nitzken in the 200 back (1:54.20).

Second-place finishes include James McGuire in the 1000 free (10:04.84), Westrick in the 50 free (21.46) and Blackstone in the 200 breast (2:08.28). Westrick and Blackstone were the top Miami times in their respective events.

Some of the Miami men and women are competing at the Ohio State Winter Invitational on Saturday, February 10 and Sunday, February 11.
