Women's Track and Field Compete at BG Opener

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Miami University women's track and field team got their indoor season underway Saturday night at Bowling Green's BG Opener. The RedHawks were one of four teams in attendance, competing against Ball State, Cleveland State, and the host Falcons in an unscored meet.
The 'Hawks best result of the night came in the 300 meter, where junior Olivia Bechtel took the victory with a 39.53 time. Faith Baxter also put on a good showing, taking third. Miami also got a solid race from senior Kalliopi Kountouri in the 400 meter, who finished second with a 54.82. In the 4 x 400 relay, the RedHawks came in second behind the team of Bechtel, Kountouri, Sonia Slusarczyk, and Mallory Harr.Â
Over on the field side of the event, Emily Fletchall won an all-Miami pole vault finals, clearing a height of 3.35 meters. Jaime Handra grabbed second in the high jump, as did Hannah Falcione in the triple jump.

The track and field squad will return in the new year when they head to the University of Kentucky for a two-day meet on Jan. 11-12.Â
