Kendall McCoy led the 'Hawks in scoring with 16 points with
Lauren Dickerson (11),
Kristen Levering (11) and
Savannah Kluesner (10) also hitting double digits.
McCoy hit her first three shots of the game as the teams were tied after two and a half minutes of play at seven points apiece. After these shots, Canisius went on a 6-0 run before Miami could answer.
With 3:25 left in the first quarter,
Nia Clark scored her first collegiate basket, a driving layup, to bring Miami within four.

After Clark's basket, Canisius went on an 8-0 run to finish the quarter with a 23-11 lead.
Levering started off the second quarter with a pair of baskets before McCoy cut Canisius' lead to single digits with a shot behind the arc.

Canisius went on another run after McCoy's three-pointer before Dickerson sunk a three-pointer of her own. Levering made a jumper and drew the foul to end the second quarter with seven points. Miami trailed 39-26 at halftime.

The RedHawks put together an eight-point run to start the second half and cut the deficit to five points. Dickerson made another from behind the arc to bring Miami within four, the smallest deficit they faced since the first half. The 'Hawks finished the third quarter trailing 50-45.

In the fourth quarter, Miami cut Canisius' lead to only two points on four different occasions before tying the game at 59 with 2:35 to play. Dickerson stole the ball mid-court and was patient with a pass to McCoy in the corner to tie the game.

With less than a minute to play, Kluesner drew a foul under the basket and sunk both free throws to give Miami a 61-59 lead. Canisius missed its next shot to give Miami the ball back with 43 seconds left. The RedHawks were unable to convert on its next possession but forced a turnover with six seconds remaining in the game. Canisius fouled Dickerson as the ball was inbounded and Dickerson made a free throw to cap the scoring at 62-59.
Miami hosts Eastern Kentucky in its 2018-19 home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 13. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
