About Chuck Martin
• Head coach
Chuck Martin, who earned that title on Dec. 3, 2013, brings an impressive resume to Oxford, Ohio.
• Earlier this year Martin signed a contract extension that will run until 2020.Â
• Not only was he 74-7 in six years at Grand Valley State (2004-09), he has coached in seven national championship games in the past 16 seasons.  Martin has an all-time head coaching record of 94-46.
• He has twice been named the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) National Coach of the Year and has been a coordinator on both sides of the ball.
• Martin was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Grand Valley State University on Oct. 23, 2015.
Ohio Recap
A 21-point second quarter and a second-half safety allowed the Miami football team to prevail 30-28 in a Battle of the Bricks showdown. The victory is the RedHawks' first win over the Bobcats since 2012, snapping a five-game skid in the series.
Ohio finished the game with a slight lead in total offense (364-357), led mainly by 201 yards rushing (168 from Oullette). Smith led Miami with 94 yards rushing while Young put up 104 yards from scrimmage (67 receiving, 37 rushing). Ragland finished 20-for-32 with 199 yards through the air with Young hauling in a game-high seven passes.
Tidbits From Ohio Contest
• The 30-28 win was Miami's first over Ohio since 2012.

Gus Ragland threw an interception on a screen pass in the third quarter, snapping a streak of 156 straight passes without throwing an INT.
• Ragland moved into third place all-time in the Miami record books in passing touchdowns (55) and fifth in passing yards (6,040).

Doug Costin's safety was Miami's first since 2011.
About Northern Illinois
Northern Illinois comes into Wednesday's game with a 7-3 overall and 6-0 MAC record. A win over Miami would clinch the MAC West for the Huskies. Overall, NIU averages 21.1 points and 318.5 yards per game. Marcus Childers has thrown for 1,383 yards and 10 touchdowns this season while adding another 328 yards and five scores on the ground. Defensively, NIU allows just 21.1 points and 354.8 yards per game. Defensive lineman Sutton Smith has nine sacks this season, while the Huskies have recorded 37 sacks as a team this year.
Series Vs. Northern Illinois
Northern Illinois is 9-8 all-time versus Miami and is the only school in the Mid-American Conference with a winning record versus Miami. These two schools last saw each other back in 2015, a contest NIU won 45-12 in Oxford, Ohio. Miami's last win on the road versus the Huskies came back in 1998.
Mallory Cup
On Nov. 14, Miami and Northern Illinois will compete for the Mallory Cup, honoring, Bill Mallory, one of the all-time great Mid-American Conference coaches. Mallory was 64-31 all-time as a head coach in the Mid-American Conference for both Miami and NIU. His 64 wins and .674 win percentage rank eighth in conference history.
Mallory, who passed away on May 25, 2018, was 39-12 in five years (1969-73) as Miami's head coach, including a MAC Championship season in 1973 in which Miami went 11-0, including a Tangerine Bowl victory over Florida. After a stint at Colorado, Mallory coached Northern Illinois from 1980-83, compiling a 25-19 record in DeKalb. NIU won its first conference championship in 1983 under the guidance of coach Mallory. Mallory is believed to be the only football coach in history to win a championship with two different MAC schools. He also won MAC Coach of the Year in 1973 with Miami and 1983 with NIU.
Two Plays, Two More Wins
Miami is two plays away from two extra wins this year. In the 40-39 loss versus Western Michigan, Miami missed a 50-yard field goal as time expired. On Oct. 20 at Army, Miami elected to go for two in double overtime but came up just short.
Offensive Explosion
Miami has scored 251 points over its last seven games and has scored at least 30 points in all seven contests. The last time Miami scored anything close to that was back in 2005 when the RedHawks posted 268 points in a  seven-game span. The last time Miami scored at least 30 points in seven-straight games was back in 2003 when Ben Roethlisberger was quarterback.
Red Means Go
This season, Miami is 37-for-38 in the red zone with 31 (81.6%) touchdowns. Miami is also 28-for-28 in the red zone during MAC play with 23 touchdowns. Overall, Miami's red zone offense ranks third in the country and the RedHawks have scored touchdowns on nine consecutive red zone trips entering the NIU contest.

James Gardner suffered an injury at Minnesota and is expected to miss the remainder of the season. Gardner, a first-team All-MAC performer last season has 107 career catches for 1,906 yards and 18 touchdowns in his career. Other major season-ending injuries include DT

Martin vs. the MAC Since 2016
Miami is 14-8 versus the MAC since the 2016 season. In 2016, Miami opened 0-2 and won its final six conference games of the season and went 4-4 in 2017 in conference play.

Gus Ragland. Ragland led Miami to six-straight wins over Kent State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, Buffalo and Ball State. The now senior quarterback is 14-12 all-time as a starter for the RedHawks.
Nice Way to Start a CareerÂ
Ragland began his career by throwing 203 consecutive passes before throwing an interception late in the contest versus Mississippi State in the 2016 St. Petersburg Bowl. In all, the Cincinnati, Ohio native has thrown just 12 interceptions in 807 career pass attempts (1 INT every 67.3 pass attempts). In fact, Miami is 11-4 in games in which Ragland does not throw and interception and 3-8 when he throws it to the other team.Â

Gus Ragland has owned the red zone since joining Miami in 2015. In his career, he has completed 60-of-156 passes from inside the 20-yard line for 39 touchdowns, while throwing just one interception. He has added 11 rushing scores in his career from inside the red zone, for a 50:1 touchdown to interception ratio.

Miami returns all five starters from a unit that allowed just 21 sacks in 2017 and helped Miami rush for a season average of 146.9 yards per game, the highest under Coach Martin. Oh To Be Young
This season,
Kenny Young is second on the team with 41 catches for 375 yards through the air. He also leads the team with four receiving touchdowns. In his career, he has 911 receiving yards and 1,918 rushing yards. Young has a chance to become Miami's first 2,000-yard rusher and 1,ooo-yard receiver for his career.
Dynamic Duo
Alonzo Smith and
Kenny Young have played a lot of football for the Red and White. Combined, the duo have rushed for 4,284 yards. Smith's 2,366 rushing yards rank him 12th all-time in the Miami record books. Young is not far behind with 1,918 in his career.
Chasing History
Maurice Thomas, a local product from Talawanda High School, ranks third all-time in the record books with 1,723 kick return yards. Jamal Rogers (1,950) and Milt Bowen (1,826) are the lone two that stand in his way from claiming the top spot in Miami history.
From Walk-on to Star
Brad Koenig came to Miami five years ago as a walk-on. He is now the leader of the Miami defense and in the last five weeks he has twice earned MAC Defensive Player of the Week honors and named to the National Defensive Team of the Week by Pro Football Focus. A few highlights from this year include:
• At Akron he had four tackles, two interceptions and a fumble recovery.
• At Army he had a career-best 23 tackles.
• At Buffalo he posted 11 tackles, 2.5 TFL and a forced fumble.
Last Chance U
The hit documentary show on Netflix, Last Chance U, featured Independence Community College. Junior defensive back
Zedrick Raymond, now a member of the Miami University football team, was part of that show. During that season he led the team with four interceptions.
