RedHawks Drop Tight Contest to Bulls

Buffalo’s goal in the 13th minute was the lone tally in Friday’s contest.

OXFORD, Ohio – A Buffalo goal in the 13th minute was the only shot that found the net as the Miami soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at Miami Soccer Field on Friday.

Miami (3-10-1, 1-6 Mid-American) came out firing early, attempting four of the first five shots. Olivia Winnett had a good look in the 11th minute that slid just a hair wide of the cage. Despite the early opportunities, it was Buffalo (10-4, 4-3 MAC) that found the back of the net in the 13th minute when a free kick allowed it to set up offensively. Kaitlyn Walsh volleyed a Tess Ford free kick service over everyone and in to put the Bulls up 1-0. UB took the final four shots of the opening frame to maintain its one-goal lead at the break.

The Red & White put on some early pressure in the second half and outshot the Bulls 5-3 in the final 45 minutes of play. A nice run down the right side allowed a quick cross into the box for Winnett in the 50th minute of play, but Emily Kelly kept her header in front of her to maintain the lead. Another MU run in the 70th minute saw Lyda Bogdanovitch cross the ball into a dangerous area, but Kelly came off her line to punch it away as UB sealed away the shutout.

Miami ended with a 10-9 shots advantage. Buffalo took five corner kicks to Miami's one. Kelly stopped all five shots she faced for the shutout while Lauren Parker made four saves for the Red & White.

Sunday's match against Akron wraps up Miami's home slate and kicks off at 1 p.m. Prior to kickoff, the RedHawks will honor seniors Tori Christiansen, Kirsten Fehlan, Patricia Koutoulas and Bianca Medancic.
