OXFORD, Ohio ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃÆ'¢'¬" For their performances last week, freshman men's basketball guard Nike Sibande and sophomore women's basketball guard Lauren Dickerson are Miami Athletes of the Week for the week of Jan. 15-21.
Sibande was Miami's leading scorer this past week, averaging 15.0 points per game. He was 11-for-24 (45.8 percent) from the field, including 5-for-12 (41.7 percent) from behind the arc. He also showed his endurance, averaging 36.5 minutes per contest. Against Bowling Green on Tuesday, Sibande led the RedHawks with 20 points, his first career 20 point performance. He was 8-for-13 from the field and hit three 3-point baskets. He followed that up with 10 points and two 3-point makes in a key supporting role in the victory over Ball State on Saturday. For the season, Sibande is Miami's leading scorer, averaging 14.1 points per game.
This is the second time this season and in his career that Sibande has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week. He last won it for the week of Nov. 27-Dec. 3.
Dickerson helped Miami to a split in a pair of decisions this past week. On Wednesday at home against Akron, the sophomore posted 31 points, five assists, four rebounds and four steals en route to a 75-67 Red & White win. In a loss at Western Michigan on Saturday, Dickerson went for 20 points to go with four rebounds and three assists. In total, she averaged 25.5 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 4.0 apg and 2.0 spg for the week. Dickerson now has 29 straight games in which she has scored in double figures, 14 of those being 20-plus point performances. Just over the midway point of her sophomore year, she already ranks fifth in program history for career 20-point games with 21.
This is the fourth time this season and ninth time in her career that Dickerson has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week. She last won it for the week of Dec. 25-31.
The next Miami Athletes of the Week will be announced on Monday, Jan. 29.
