BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Miami University track & field completed their first day at the Gladstein Invitational Friday evening. The first day was heavy on running events.
Senior Maria Scavuzzo led the distance squad with a 9:48.96 in the fast section of the 3000m. Also racing with her in the very talented section was sophomore Carly Davis, who finished 12th with a 10:25.81.
In the regular section of the 3000m, Miami's top finisher was Sarah Starrett, who placed fifth. The sophomore, who had a breakout cross country campaign in the fall, finished the event in a PR-worthy 10:10.68. The time was just one one-hundredth of a second behind her outdoor personal best. Also running in the event was sophomore Claire Linn, whose 10:20.07 landed her in the top-10 as well. It was her first time running the 3000m either indoor or outdoor.

Though she was three seconds behind her PR, Alesha Vovk's 4:59.02 in the fast section of the one mile made her the new team leader in the event this season. The time just edged out Scavuzzo's 5:00.49 from last weekend's Kentucky Relays.
Finishing seventh in the fast section of the 1 Mile is @aleshavovk!
Her 4:59.02 is the best time a `Hawk has recorded in the mile this season! #RiseUpRedHawks-- Miami Track & Field and XC (@MiamiOH_XCTF) January 20, 2018
The best field result came from jumper Hannah Falcione. The sophomore, competing in the triple jump, recorded a 37-1.75 in her first attempt to place sixth. The mark ties her previous indoor best set at last year's Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships. It is her best distance of the season thus far.
Miami's men that traveled turned in some solid results, too. The top overall Miami performance came from sophomore Jeremiah Hunter, who took second in the 60m with a personal-best 6.74. In the 60m hurdles, Aaron Muresan took fourth with an 8.33. He tied his PR with an 8.31 in the prelims.
