OAK LAWN, Ill. - In its first competition since the Dr. Porter Classic in early December, Miami's collegiate synchronized skating team shook off the rust and topped the field at the Seventh Annual Synchro Illinois meet on Saturday.
The RedHawks finished up with a score of 67.29 in their Tina Turner medley to pick up the victory over a field of four teams. The score edged out Adrian's 66.75 with Western Michigan (54.41) and Illinois (38.91) also at the competition.
"There are some things we needed to dust off in our first competition after the break," head coach Carla DeGirolamo said. "It was nice to get another event under our belts before we head to the Midwestern Championships in a couple weeks. We had some individual errors in a few elements, but it's something we can attack these next couple weeks to come out strong for in Wichita."
Miami returns to action in two weeks when the senior team goes to Sweden to vie for the Leon Lurje Trophy while the collegiate team competes in the Midwestern Championships in Wichita, Kansas.
