After trailing brother Christopher Torpy by just seven-tenths of a second at the Indiana Open, Sean was the one who paced RedHawk runners at the competitive Commodore Classic. The team placed fourth as well in front of several solid programs like Ohio State and Missouri. Sean's 25:08.3, good for fourth place, comes in 35 seconds faster than his PR from freshman year. He is cementing his place as one of the team's anchors as just a sophomore.
This is the first time this season and in his career that Torpy has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week.
In two conference games last weekend, Portugal scored three goals and four assists, adding 10 points to her total for the season. She took 10 shots total during the two games. Portugal scored a goal and two assists against Ohio, having a hand in every Miami goal. Against Appalachian State, she scored two goals and two assists. Portugal's second goal of the game came on a breakaway with Lexie Nugent when they went 40 yards together to put it in the net. Portugal currently leads the team in scoring with seven goals and four assists for 18 total points.
This is the first time this season and third time in her career that Portugal has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week. She last won it for the week of Aug. 22-28, 2016.
The next Miami Athletes of the Week will be announced on Monday, Sept. 25.
