OXFORD, Ohio -- Miami University Assistant Athletic Director for Communications Dave Meyer has announced the hiring of Maria Slovikovski as Athletic Communications Intern.
Slovikovski comes to Oxford as a 2017 graduate of Otterbein University, earning Magna Cum Laude honors while receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations. During her time at Otterbein, Slovikovski immersed herself in the sports field in a number of areas. She served as a game day volunteer for the Columbus Blue Jackets during the 2016-17 season after serving a stint as a communications intern during the 2015-16 campaign. She also spent summers interning or volunteering with the Ohio Machine, the Lake County Captains and the Lake Erie Crushers. She also spent two seasons as the public relations representative for Otterbein's club hockey team.
"I couldn't be happier to have Maria join our staff," Meyer said. "Her passion, work ethic and positive attitude make her a great addition to our communications team."
In addition to gaining on the job training around collegiate and professional sports during her undergrad, Slovikovski honed her craft in a number of organizations. She worked as a marketing and development intern at the Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio, a communications and marketing consultant with the City of Shaker Heights, the Director of Public Relations for OTTERTHON, a publicity manager for the CardinalCorps Leaders and a student orientation coordinator for Otterbein. Her work included managing social media accounts, creating and implementing PR campaigns and maintaining organization websites.
Other notable endeavors for Slovikovski include serving as Vice President of Otterbein's Mortar Board Chapter in 2016 and being named Intern of the Year by the Center for Career and Professional Development in 2016. She earned the President's Volunteer Service Award at a Gold Level each year while attending Otterbein.
Slovikovski will spearhead the publicity efforts of Miami's field hockey, swimming and diving and softball programs in her position.
