Johnson Joins Event & Facilities Management Team

June 15, 2017 OXFORD, Ohio – Miami University’s Intercollegiate Athletics Department has added Phil Johnson to its Event & Facilities Management team as its new Assistant Director of Athletic Events and Guest Services.
Johnson is in the midst of his second stint at Miami University after serving as an Athletic Events and Facility Management Intern during the 2016-17 academic year. He served as the visiting team liaison for all home football games, assisted in usher and parking staff management at basketball and hockey games and served as the official’s liaison for the 2017 NCAA Ice Hockey Midwest Regional. Previously, Johnson spent eight years (1995-2003) working with Miami’s Recreational Sports department as a coordinator, assistant program director and eventually associate program director in the aquatic center. He eventually moved into administration as an assistant director, associate director and senior director at the University's Rec Sports Center.
Prior to returning to Miami in 2016, Johnson spent 13 years working in the private sector as a business owner and investment advisor representative for Primerica Advisors in Cincinnati. His other collegiate stint came at Drake University, where he was a graduate assistant in the athletic sports facilities department.
Johnson was a letter winner on the track and field team at Minnesota Duluth, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree (1993) in biology before earning his Masters of Science (1996) in higher education administration from Drake.
