RedHawks Fall to Musketeers, 4-3

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Miami University women's tennis team fell to the Xavier Musketeers, (4-3), Sunday evening in Cincinnati.
Xavier swept the doubles competition. Juniors Nelli Ponomareva and Anastasiia Vasiukhina fell to Cristina DiLorenzo and Lauren Ghidotti, (6-0). Emily Struble and Anzhelika Shapovalova were defeated by Sydney Liggins and Sophia Abelson, (6-2). Senior RedHawk Andreea Badileanu and newcomer Abby Brady dropped their match to Rachel Reichenbach and Lauren Fitz-Randolph, (6-1).
Ponomareva kicked off the singles matches with a win at No. 1, where she downed her opponent Liggins in straight sets, (6-2, 6-2). Shapovalova earned a point for Miami when she defeated DiLorenzo, (7-5, 7-6 (7-5)). Brady fell in flight to Lauren Fitz-Randolph, (6-0, 6-1). Badileanu also fell in her match to Reichenbach (7-6 (7-3), 6-4).
Struble was defeated in a three set battle by Lauren Ghidotti, (7-6 (7-0), 6-7 (7-0), 6-4). Vasiukhina earned another point for Miami after she downed Vanina Iordanova (6-3, 0-6, 6-4).
The RedHawks have this week to prepare for a double header coming up on Sunday, Feb. 26, where they will take on Northern Kentucky at 10 a.m. and then again with Ohio Northern at 6 p.m. Both matches will take place at Riverside Athletic Club in Hamilton Ohio.
