ANN ARBOR, Mich. - An aggressive showing in its free skate yielded positive results for the Miami University senior synchronized skating team as it finished its weekend at the 22nd Annual Dr. Richard Porter Classic on Saturday evening.
The RedHawks performed their Showgirls themed free skate in their largest meet of the season to this point. While MU did have a fall during its routine, it still finished up with a score of 102.02, over three and a half points better than its previous season best. That score was good for second place in the competition, behind only the Skyliners' 105.20.
Combining Saturday's score with Friday's second-place short program and Miami's senior squad finished second in the final standings at the meet. The two-day performance accumulated a runner-up score of 157.06, behind only the Skyliners' 163.88 and nearly 10 points above Adrian College's 147.60.
"We made great improvements from the last time out which is exciting," head coach Carla DeGirolamo said. "They attacked both of their programs this weekend. Tonight, they went for broke, had great performances from start to finish and really went for it. We're taking good steps forward to keep improving. We're looking forward to our next event overseas just after winter break."
The Red & White conclude their weekend on Sunday with the collegiate team showcasing their free skate.
