OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University swimming and diving team competed in the second day of the Miami Invitational on Friday.
The Miami women lead the competition with 1067 points with one day of competition remaining. The Miami men rank second with 609 points. The women divers competed in the 3-mtr and the men divers competed in the 1-mtr, though the diving competition is not factored into the scores.
The women had strong swims across all events, notching at least one top-4 finish in each event. Ella Moynihan, Elise Campbell, Molly Zilch and Abby Stone finished second in the 800 free relay (7:27.02). Campbell, Izzy Herb, Peyton Mosbaugh and Elise Campbell finished third in the 200 medley relay (1:43.15).
In the 400 IM, Hannah Fuchs finished third (4:21.26) with Carolyn Jungers right behind her in fourth (4:23.23). Mosbaugh was the runner up in the 100 fly (55.24), Moynihan was the runner up in the 200 free and Campbell was the runner up in the 100 breast (1:00.99). Herb also finished fourth in the 100 back (55.74).
The relays were one of the men's strong points in competition. Gordon Wheeler, Iago Moussalem, Ross Westrick and James Wray finished third in the 800 free relay (6:42.17). Wray, Moussalem, Thomas Blackstone (Hutch) and Nicholas Ward (Nick) finished fourth in the 200 medley relay (1:30.35).
Moussalem was the runner up in the 100 fly (48.74), Blackstone finished third in the 100 breast (56.12) and Wheeler finished fourth in the 200 free.
Pei Lin won the 3-mtr finals competition for the women (383.85). Madison Folta (Maddie) finished fourth in the consolation for the women (251.10). Ryan Nash, Harrison Moncino and Sam Wiedmann all qualified for the 1-mtr consolation competition for the men. Nash finished fourth (270.50).
The Miami Invitational continues Saturday with prelims beginning at 9 a.m. and finals beginning at 4:30 p.m.
