OXFORD, Ohio ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃÆ'¢'¬" For their performances last week, senior hockey defenseman Louie Belpedio and sophomore women's basketball guard Lauren Dickerson are Miami Athletes of the Week for the week of Nov. 20-26.
Belpedio continued his surge and extended his point streak to a career-best five games by posting consecutive two-point outings in an unbeaten trip to Bowling Green. The RedHawks' captain chipped in two assists in Friday's 6-3 victory while going +1 and helping hold the Falcons to a mere 14 shots on goal in the win. Saturday's finale saw Belpedio contribute to both Miami goals, including a go ahead power play goal in the third period of an eventual 2-2 tie.
This is the first time this season and in his career that Belpedio has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week.
Dickerson was a key catalyst in Miami going 2-1 this past week. The Indianapolis, Ind. native averaged 21.7 points per game, 5.0 rebounds per game and 6.0 assists per game. She began the week by tying her season-high with 26 points to go with six rebounds in a win over Valparaiso on Tuesday. On Friday at Loyola Marymount, Dickerson went off for 26 points behind seven three-pointers. She also served up eight assists. She saved her most balanced game of the week for Saturday against Denver in a 17-point victory. Dickerson flirted with a triple-double by posting 14 points, nine assists and seven rebounds.
This is the first time this season and sixth time in her career that Dickerson has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week. She previously won it for the week of Feb. 27-March 5, 2017.
The next Miami Athletes of the Week will be announced on Monday, Dec. 4.
