Volleyball
Last Week: Miami (23-8 overall) the 2017 MAC Tournament Champions, winning both of its matches on its home floor to capture the tournament title for the first time since 2007. Senior outside hitter Olivia Rusek was named Tournament MVP, while senior libero Maeve McDonald and sophomore outside hitter Taylor Daignault joined her on the All-Tournament Team. The RedHawks used a solid all-around effort to advance to their third Mid-American Conference Championship match in the past four seasons with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-23) win over Ohio Saturday afternoon in the MAC Semifinals. (Recap) Knowing that Western Michigan had a history of coming from behind in the Mid-American Conference Tournament, Miami left no doubt as it took a 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-18) win in the MAC Tournament Championship in front of an excited home crowd on Sunday (Recap). This Week: The RedHawks are idle this week, but will learn their NCAA Tournament destination when the selection show airs on Sunday at 9 p.m. on ESPNU.
Men's Basketball
Last Week: Miami (3-1 overall) had a 2-1 week, including splitting a pair of games at the Jamaica Classic over the weekend. The RedHawks used clutch free-throw shooting and timely three-pointers to pull out an exciting 73-67 overtime victory over Wright State in the team's home opener on Tuesday. (Recap) A balanced offensive attack and a historic defensive performance led the Miami University men's basketball team to its first 3-0 start since the 1998-99 season as it defeated LIU Brooklyn 78-74 to open play at the Jamaica Classic on Friday. Junior guard Darrian Ringo broke the school single-game record with eight steals (Recap) It was hot outside in Montego Bay, but a cold-shooting night for Miami led to a 68-58 defeat to Hartford to close out play at the Jamaica Classic on Sunday evening. (Recap) This Week: Miami remains on the road for a pair of games this week. After leaving Jamaica, the RedHawks head to New Orleans to take on Tulane Wednesday for an 8 p.m. (EST) tip that will air live on ESPN3. Miami then heads to Austin Peay on Sunday for a 3 p.m. (EST) matinee that will air on the OVC Digital Network.
Hockey
Last Week: The Redhawks (5-6-1, 2-3-1-0 NCHC) hosted No. 14/15 Minnesota Duluth for a league series over the weekend. Despite owning a 29-19 shot advantage, MU dropped the opener by a 3-1 count. Carson Meyer scored a power play goal to tie it up early in the third period, but UMD scored twice in a 1:16 span late in the frame to take the series opener (Recap). The RedHawks again trailed 1-0 after 20 minutes on Saturday, but got second period goals out of Ryan Siroky and Carson Meyer to go in front before the second intermission. Josh Melnick then made it a 3-1 contest early in the third and Miami held off a late surge by Minnesota Duluth to force a split with a 3-2 victory (Recap). This Week: The RedHawks step out of NCHC play for a weekend road series at in-state rival Bowling Green on Friday (7:37 p.m.) and Saturday (7:07 p.m.).
Women's Basketball
Last Week: Miami (1-2) was on the road for a pair of contests this past week, starting with Purdue on Wednesday. The RedHawks hung tough the entire game but the Boilermakers were able to edge out MU, 75-66. Lauren Dickerson poured in 22 points while Kendall McCoy and Savannah Kluesner chipped in 16 and 12 points, respectively (Recap). On Saturday, the Red & White fell to Cincinnati, 73-62, despite shooting 50 percent from the floor. MU faced a two-point deficit at the midway point but a 42-point second half for the Bearcats was too much to overcome. Kluesner led the 'Hawks in scoring with 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting. Dickerson added 14 points and seven assists while Leah Purvis contributed 11 points (Recap). This Week: Miami has a busy week ahead with three games on the slate. The action gets underway on Tuesday when the 'Hawks host Valparaiso at 12 p.m. inside Millett Hall. MU will spend its thanksgiving break out in Los Angeles, Calif. for the Loyola-Marymount Thanksgiving Classic. The Red & White battle host LMU on Friday at 6:30 p.m. ET before wrapping up the tournament with Denver on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET.
