ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃÆ'¢'¬" For their performances last week, senior men's basketball forward Logan McLane and senior volleyball outside hitter Olivia Rusek are Miami Athletes of the Week for the week of Nov. 13-19.
McLane was solid throughout the week, including a dominant performance at the Jamaica Classic over the weekend. He averaged 14.7 points and 8.3 rebounds in three games, leading the RedHawks in each of those categories. In the RedHawks win over LIU Brooklyn, McLane had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. He followed that up with 22 points on 9-for-11 shooting and seven rebounds against Hartford on Sunday. McLane shot 63.3 percent (19-for-30) from the field in leading Miami to a 2-1 record for the week.
This is the first time this season and second time in his career that McLane has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week. He previously won it for the week of Feb. 6-12, 2017.
Rusek led the RedHawks to their first MAC Tournament title since 2007. She earned MAC Tournament MVP honors after recording 22 kills and 18 digs at the event. That was an average of 3.67 kills per set and an average of 3.00 digs per set. Against Ohio on Saturday, Rusek just missed a double-double with nine kills and 12 digs. She followed that up with 13 kills, six digs and two blocks in the MAC Championship match against Western Michigan on Sunday. Rusek hit .271 from the outside for the tournament.
This is the first time this season and second time in her career that Rusek has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week. She previously won it for the week of Sept. 14-20, 2015.
The next Miami Athletes of the Week will be announced on Monday, Nov. 27.
