Gilling had a strong opening weekend to start his collegiate career against Providence. The freshman contributed to two of the RedHawks' three goals on the weekend, with both of those goals tying the score at the time. He dished out an assist on Miami's first goal of the season on Friday night which left the score in a 1-1 tie after 20 minutes. On Saturday, Gilling capped a comeback from an early 2-0 deficit by netting his first career goal 6:57 into the third. The Gaylord, Michigan native also went +2 for the weekend.
This is the first time this season that Gilling has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week. Nugent was the key to Miami's victory over Longwood on Sunday, scoring both of the RedHawks' goals. Miami remains undefeated (4-0) in MAC play and is in the lead to capture the conference title. Nugent currently ranks second on the team with six goals and 14 total points.
This is the first time this season and in her career that Nugent has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week.
The next Miami Athletes of the Week will be announced on Monday, Oct. 16.
