Oct. 20, 2017 Miami University Assistant Athletic Director for Communications, Dave Meyer, has announced the hiring of Alex Farkas as the Coordinator of New Media.
"I'm excited to join the communications team at Miami," said Farkas. "It is an honor to work for the top school in the MAC and the opportunity to produce the best content for the passionate Miami fans is something I am going to love to do."
Farkas comes to Miami after spending the past year as the Assistant Media Production Coordinator with the Charlotte 49ers in Charlotte, NC. While with the 49ers, he produced daily video content for all of Charlotte's sports and ran live streams of games and matches for the 49ers.
Farkas' new duties with the RedHawks will include oversite of all social media platforms with Miami, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat. Daily video content will also be a major focus.
"Alex is everything I am looking for in a team member," said Meyer. "He is hard working and motivated to push Miami to the top of the social media ranks."
Prior to joining the 49ers, Farkas was a television reporter for KOMU-TV in Columbia, Mo. from 2014-16, anchoring morning and nightly sports broadcasts as well as producing a Sunday night sports show.
He has also spent time at Columbia College, Fox Sports 1 in Los Angeles, Calif., KABC-TV in Glendale, Calif. And BruinReportOnline in Los Angeles, Calif.
Farkas graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2016 with a broadcast journalism degree.
