Oct. 19, 2017 Craig Bennett, Miami University's Assistant Athletics Director for Academic Support Services, earned the William T. Sheffield Award of Distinction, which recognize those who go above and beyond in contributing to Miami Athletics and reflecting positively on the University. This is the first time the award has been assigned.
Bennett leads Miami's academic unit that continues to excel each year at the 3.0 grade-point average, with graduation rates near and at times above Miami's student population. In addition, he is consistently impacting the lives of young people and has made a positive impact on them during their time at Miami.
"My father in law, Charlie Coles, once told me, `bringing positive energy and Joy every day to your job is the simplest form of gratitude you can show your boss and the people you work with,' said Bennett. "This is what I try to bring every day working with our student athletes, staff, and coaches. I love Miami University and I appreciate David Sayler and Miami University for giving me the opportunity to work at a place where we can Graduate Champions on the playing fields and in life. Love and Honor."
The award is named after William T. Sheffield, a former president of the Miami University Alumni Association and the Cincinnati Miami Men's Club, William and his wife Jeanette Stockmeier Sheffield '43 were regular and visible figures at Miami sporting contests, holding season tickets for football and basketball and typically wearing their trademark red and white Miami cowboy hats.
"Craig loves Miami University and it shows every single day," said David Sayler, Miami's Athletic Director. "His tenacity and focus on helping student-athletes achieve greatness is something I admire."
The William T. Sheffield Award of Distinction will be presented this Saturday at halftime of the Miami vs. Buffalo football game. In that presentation and in those individuals honored for the ways they have represented and advanced the University, will live the legacy of a very proud and passionate Miamian.
