OXFORD, Ohio ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃÆ'¢'¬" For their performances last week, senior golfer Patrick Flavin and sophomore soccer defender Lydia Brosnahan are Miami Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 9-15.
Flavin has been on the greatest start in the history of Miami golf with his third victory in four tournaments. This time he shared co-medalist honors at the Windon Memorial Classic, finishing at four-under par. That includes a five-under par 65 in the first round, which was a new career low. Flavin won his seventh career tournament tying Maarten van den Berg for most career individual wins at Miami.
This is the third time this season and 10th time in his career that Flavin has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week. He last won it for the week of Sept. 25-Oct. 1.
Brosnahan never left the pitch over the weekend and contributed in all facets of the game to help Miami post its first two wins of the year. On Friday, she marked the MAC's leading scorer, Lexi Pelafas and held her off the scoresheet as Miami carried a shutout into the closing minutes. Though CMU eventually tied it up, Brosnahan put Miami in the win column by heading home a ball in overtime to close out the 2-1 victory. After the team fell behind 2-0 early on Sunday, Brosnahan helped the RedHawks shut down Eastern Michigan the rest of the way and her header goal in the 64th minute tied things up at 2-2 before the Red and White wrapped up a 3-2 victory in double overtime.
This is the first time this season and in her career that Brosnahan has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week.
The next Miami Athletes of the Week will be announced on Monday, Oct. 23.
