Women's Basketball
Last Week: The RedHawks (6-10, 0-3 MAC) started off last week by hosting Western Michigan on Wednesday in a cross-divisional conference matchup. Behind the power of three players scoring in double figures, the Broncos defeated the RedHawks, 85-60. Leah Purvis' 16 points led the way for Miami (RECAP). On Saturday at Toledo, the Red & White found themselves in an early back-and-forth battle with the Rockets. Miami entered the half with a two-point lead but Toledo used a strong final 20 minutes to topple the RedHawks, 64-50. Lauren Dickerson paced MU with 17 points while Kendall McCoy contributed 11 points (RECAP). This Week: Miami will host Eastern Michigan on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and then remain home for a Saturday tilt with Buffalo at 1 p.m.
Hockey
Last Week: Miami (7-8-5, 3-4-3-1 NCHC) continued its roll, extending its winning streak to four and its unbeaten streak to five after sweeping NCHC foe St. Cloud State over the weekend. Friday saw the Red and White fall behind 1-0 after 40 minutes before Anthony Louis scored to tie it up with 8:14 to go. The Huskies went ahead 2-1 with 2:59 remaining, but a five-minute major penalty set the stage for late game RedHawk heroics as Josh Melnick scored with 56.7 seconds left before adding another power play goal 1:23 into overtime to cap a 3-2 win (RECAP). That rally proved a catalyst the next night as Kiefer Sherwood's shorthanded goal 10:09 in set the tone for a brilliant special teams performance that saw Miami kill all six St. Cloud State power plays while also adding a power play goal late to seal away a 4-1 win, securing MU its first series sweep of the season (RECAP). This Week: The RedHawks begin a four-game road trip with a series at defending national champion North Dakota beginning on Friday night at 8:37 p.m.
Men's Basketball
Last Week: Miami (8-7 overall, 1-1 MAC) split its two games to open Mid-American Conference play last week. Junior guard Abdoulaye Harouna led the RedHawks with career highs in both scoring with 18 points and 3-pointers with five in Miami's 69-67 MAC opening win over Northern Illinois on Tuesday. (RECAP) The RedHawks saw their three-game win streak come to an end on Saturday to the hot-shooting Toledo Rockets, 91-76. Junior forward Logan McLane recorded a career-high 25 points in that contest (RECAP) Next Week: Miami remains on the road on Tuesday when it travels to Ball State for a 7 p.m. tip. The RedHawks then host Akron on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the women's basketball team.
