Football
Last Week: The RedHawks fell 17-16 to Mississippi State in the St. Petersburg Bowl. Gus Ragland was named Miami's offensive MVP, throwing for 262 yards and two touchdowns (RECAP). Next Week: Up next for Miami is National Signing Day on February 1.
Hockey
Last Week: Miami (5-8-5 overall) wrapped up its season series with Ohio State in dramatic fashion, posting a 6-3 comeback win over the No. 9/10 Buckeyes in Columbus on New Year's Eve. OSU scored nine seconds in and took a 2-0 lead just 9:17 into the contest. Josh Melnick got Miami on the board with 4.5 seconds left in the opening frame and a Carson Meyer goal tied things up 1:57 into the second, but a power play goal by Ohio State left it ahead 3-2 after two periods. From there, the RedHawks erupted with four goals in the third as Gordie Green evened the score on the power play and Kiefer Sherwood scored twice in a 53-second span to put them in front 5-3 before Scott Dornbrock sealed their second-straight win with an empty net goal. (RECAP) This Week: Miami resumes NCHC play with a home series against St. Cloud State on Friday and Saturday.
Men's Basketball
Last Week: The RedHawks (7-6 overall) won its final non-conference game with an 89-69 victory over Olivet on Thursday. Junior Logan McLane recorded his first career double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. (RECAP) This Week: MAC play begins this week for the RedHawks. Miami hosts Northern Illinois on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Red and White then travel to Toledo on Saturday for a 4 p.m. matinee. Both games will air live on ESPN3.
Women's Basketball
Last Week: Miami (6-8, 0-1 MAC) played two games this past week, the first being its non-conference finale against Cedarville at Millett Hall on Wednesday. The RedHawks downed the Yellow Jackets, 70-57, behind Jazz Smith's career-high 17 points. Leah Purvis (12 pts) and Lauren Dickerson (11 pts) also scored in double figures (RECAP). MU capped off the 2016 calendar year with a New Year's Eve MAC opener at Buffalo, a 71-45 triumph for the Bulls. Kristen Levering led the RedHawk attack with 10 points while Dickerson, Kayla Brown and Molly McDonagh each contributed seven points (RECAP). This Week: The Red & White return home to host Western Michigan on Wednesday at 7 p.m. for their first conference contest at Millett Hall this season. The team then heads back on the road to take on Toledo on Saturday at noon.
