Jan. 12, 2017 Miami University Athletics announced that Chase Speaks and Stephanie Davis, two members of Miami's Athletic Event and Facilities Management department, have been promoted to Assistant Athletic Director positions.
"Chase and Stephanie are deeply invested in our mission of Graduating Champions and this is reflected in the quality of work they put forth on behalf of our student-athletes," said Steve Brockelbank, Associate Athletic Director for Communications and Administration. "Stephanie has streamlined our game operations while at the same time enhancing the fan experience at Miami University. Her commitment to developing our interns is praiseworthy. Chase has committed countless hours ensuring that our coaches and athletes come to facilities that enhance their practice and competition experiences. He does an outstanding job serving as the point person for facility rentals and camps. It is exciting to see two young people taking advantage of the opportunity to grow professionally at Miami University. I look forward to observing their continued development as professionals and athletic administrators."
Speaks, Miami's new Assistant Athletic Director, Intercollegiate Camps & Athletic Facilities Management, has been with the RedHawks since March of 2012. Since arriving in Oxford, Speaks has coordinated use of several facilities to maximize training time for student-athletes, generated additional revenue through rental facilities and helped trim the game operations budget, while maintaining a high level of service to student-athletes and fans.
"I'm grateful for this opportunity provided to me by the senior administration," said Speaks. "I'm excited to contribute to the new levels of success that Miami Athletics will undoubtedly reach in the coming years."
Prior to joining Miami, Speaks spent five years at Ohio State, serving as coordinator of Buckeye Sports Camps (2009-11) and coordinator for OSU athletic event management (2007-08). He was a key part of a staff that managed more than 130 OSU sports camps that served 12,500 campers and generated more than $3 million in revenues. Speaks was the primary event manager for field hockey, men's volleyball, and men's and women's soccer. From 2007-09 he served as a student manager for OSU Recreational Sports' Outdoor Adventure Center.
Davis, who arrived in October of 2014, is now the Assistant Athletic Director of Athletic Event & Guest Services. Davis, as the department's finance manager, has made several improvements to the game operations department while trimming its budget at the same time. Those improvements include an expanded focus on the game day experience by creating a guest services position and restructuring the department's intern program to offer more on-the-job and life skills training. In addition, Davis has represented Miami as the tournament manager for MAC and NCAA championship events.
"Miami is a model program that fosters growth and development across the board," said Davis. "It is with excitement that I will continue to build on that tradition. My vision is to create an exceptional atmosphere for the student-athlete and fans. The senior administration's trust and support means so much to me. I'm greatly appreciative to them for providing me with this opportunity."
Before joining the RedHawks, Davis spent one season as an assistant equipment manager at Rice where she had budgetary oversight and successfully reduced expenditures by 17%. She also has spent time at Georgia Tech (2010-13), Houston (2009) and Florida (2004-08). During her tenure at these universities, Davis managed event and facility operations for the Ken Byers Tennis Complex and the Hank McCamish Pavilion. She was a key part of a staff that managed the 2013 NCAA Men's Golf National Championship and 2013 NCAA Men's Final Four. Davis also provided team support during the 2008 Track and Field US Olympic Trials and 2007 BCS National Championship.
