In collaboration with Miami University's Farmer School of Business, student athletes from Miami's football and volleyball teams had the opportunity to visit the Cintas corporation headquarters in Mason, Ohio. Students toured the production, storage, manufacturing and supply chain units and met with a distinguished panel of Cintas employees. The panelists, several of whom are Miami graduates, offered advice, encouragement, and an overview of Cintas' unique position in the globalized world. One special alum, CEO Scott Farmer, addressed the group on the guiding principles that help make Cintas the best in the business.
Cintas leads the industry in supplying corporate identity uniform programs, entrance and logo mats, restroom supplies, promotional products, first aid, safety, and fire protection products and services, and industrial carpet and tile cleaning. They operate more than 400 facilities in North America-including six manufacturing plants and eight distribution centers.
Craig Bennett, Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services, attended the visit and offered this reflection.
"Our Graduating Champions' mission directly aligns with what Cintas seeks when filling positions in their company (Teamwork, Focus, Attitude, Tenacity, Integrity). What the student athletes learn outside the classroom in the athletic arenas sets them apart from your average potential employee-and the prestigious degrees they are earning from one of the best universities in the country makes them the complete package."
In attendance was fifth-year senior Austin Gearing, who already accepted a position at Cintas and will begin work at their Louisville, Kentucky location in their management training program.
"This trip was great for my teammates and myself to have the opportunity to learn more about a great company like Cintas," Gearing stated. "To meet and speak with some of the top executives of the company including CEO Scott Farmer was amazing."
This was an extremely valuable experience hearing from former student-athletes," said Katie Coverdale, a junior volleyball player and double major in french and mathematics. "Learning of their success and receiving advice from them as we prepare to enter the 'real world' and begin our own careers as professionals was a huge help."
Sam Shisso, a fifth-year senior, noted that he "really enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about the company as well as future opportunities."
Student-athlete development is a critical component of our guiding philosophy and overall mission of Graduating Champions. We value our partnership with the Farmer School of Busienss and would like to thank Cintas for the thoughtful invitation and are looking forward to this continued relationship.
