Tennis Drops Doubleheader Against Georgia State and Winthrop

ROCK HILL, S.C. ââ'¬" Due to Sunday's forecast of inclement weather, Miami University's women's team condensed its road trip to a doubleheader matchup Saturday at Winthrop University's Memorial Courts. The RedHawks (5-6) saw their three-match winning streak come to a close with consecutive losses, a 4-1 result against No. 53 Georgia State (7-4) and a 6-1 setback versus No. 56 Winthrop (9-2).
Miami came away with two singles victories as sophomore Hannah Shteyn topped Georgia State's Lara Vovk, 6-3, 6-1, and freshman Emily Struble took down Winthrop's Tijana Uzelac, 6-4, 1-6, 1-0.
In the morning matchup against the Panthers, the RedHawks were swept in doubles, prior to GSU clinching the match with three straight-sets victories. The remaining matchups featuring Struble and freshman Anzhelika Shapovalova were abandoned.
The second frame of the doubleheader followed a similar path as the Eagles used a doubles sweep and quick singles wins to clinch their ninth victory in their last 10 outings. Senior Ana Rajkovic grabbed the first set in her sixth-flight contest, but would eventually come up short in second and third-set tiebreakers against Megan Kauffman.
The RedHawks are idle this week, but will look to rebound in two weeks with a road trip to Mobile, Ala. Miami will face hosting No. 41 South Alabama on Wednesday, March 23 at 1 p.m., followed by a meeting with No. 61 Old Dominion on Friday, March 25 at 11 a.m.
