Tennis Falls 5-2 at South Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. ââ'¬" Miami University's women's tennis team was unable to overcome an early stretch of defeats in a 5-2 loss to No. 45 South Alabama Wednesday afternoon at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts. The Jaguars (15-4) clinched their 14th victory in their last 15 outings with three singles victories before the RedHawks (5-7) picked up two late wins.
In doubles, sophomores Nelli Ponomareva and Anastasiia Vasiukhina tied the competition with their 6-3 second-flight victory against Cinta Maria Papke and Alexandria Stiteler, but the Jaguars used wins at first and third-flights to seal the opening point.
65th-ranked Stiteler and her Jaguar teammates continued their momentum with straight-sets victories at first, second and sixth positions, securing the victory at 4-0. Junior Andreea Badileanu responded by posting Miami's first point of the day with a 6-1, 6-2 third-flight result against Monica Mitta. Freshman Emily Struble picked up her 20th win of the year as she dropped Papke, 7-6 (8-6), 6-2. In fourth-flight, Ponomareva forced a third set, but was unable to top Michaela Meszarosova.
