Fourteen RedHawks Earn NCHC Academic All-Conference Recognition

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Fourteen members of the Miami hockey program were recognized for their efforts in the classroom by the National Collegiate Hockey Conference on Wednesday afternoon.
The NCHC released its annual Academic All-Conference Team, which is given to every student-athlete that carries a 3.0 grade-point average or higher through one full academic year at each of the conference's institutions. Additionally, the NCHC placed three more RedHawks on its Scholar-Athlete Team for maintaining at least a 3.5 GPA.
Landing on the NCHC All-Academic Team were Louie Belpedio (Skokie, Ill./USNTDP (USHL)), Scott Dornbrock (Harper Woods, Mich./Minot (NAHL)), Alex Gacek (Dracut, Mass./Youngstown (USHL)), Justin Greenberg (Dallas, Texas/Texas (NAHL)), Sean Kuraly (Dublin, Ohio/Indiana (USHL)), Conor Lemirande (Janesville, Wis./Youngstown (USHL)), Devin Loe (Weston, Fla./Fairbanks (NAHL)), Michael Mooney (Eden Prairie, Minn./Alexandria (NAHL)), Kevin Morris (Massena, N.Y./Dubuque (USHL)), Taylor Richart (Blaine, Minn./Fargo (USHL)), Andrew Schmit (Grafton, Wis./Lincoln (USHL)), Colin Sullivan (Milford, Conn./Green Bay (USHL)), Jay Williams (McLean, Va./Sioux Falls (USHL)) and Johnny Wingels (Evanston, Ill./Chicago (USHL)). The RedHawks' 14 members on the academic all-conference team tie for the third most in the NCHC, trailing only St. Cloud State (16) and Omaha (15). Lemirande, Morris and Wingels were also placed on the NCHC Scholar-Athlete Team.
Since the league requires its academic all-conference team members complete a full academic year at an institution, freshmen and first-year transfers are ineligible for a spot on the team. However, players who finish their first year with at least a 3.0 will be added during the summer.
