OXFORD, Ohio -- The Miami University volleyball team earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament Sunday evening. The RedHawks have been assigned to the Ann Arbor Regional, where they will take on Oregon in a first round match on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. The host of the regional, 12th-seed Michigan will take on American at 7:30 p.m. in the other first round match.
Please note the matches will take place in the Crisler Center, where the Wolverines normally play basketball, rather than Cliff Keen Arena, where Miami played in a tournament to open the 2016 season.
This will be Miami's ninth appearance in the NCAA Tournament, and fourth time they have received an at-large selection. The Red and White last reached the NCAA Tournament in 2008 when they were an at-large pick and dropped a five-set heartbreaker to Middle Tennessee State in the first round.
The RedHawks went 24-6 during the year, earning a share of the Mid-American Conference regular season championship for the first time since 1998. They advanced all the way to the MAC Tournament championship match for the second time in three seasons before falling to host Northern Illinois. Along the way, Miami earned high RPI victories over Missouri, Cincinnati, Northern Illinois and Xavier, along with capturing the Auburn Invitational title to claim the at-large bid.
Oregon enters the NCAA Tournament with a 20-9 record. It finished in fourth place with a 13-7 record in the PAC-12 this season. A strong offensive team that has a .274 attack percentage for the season, the Ducks are led by sophomore outside hitter Lindsey Vander Weide. She has 353 kills, an average of 3.24 per set.
