Last Week: Miami (24-6 overall) advanced to the MAC Tournament Championship match, but fell to second-seed and host Northern Illinois in the final. Senior middle hitter Paige Hill and junior right side hitter Katie Tomasic earned spots on the MAC All-Tournament Team. The RedHawks advanced to the Mid-American Conference Championship match for the second time in the last three seasons with a 3-1 (24-26, 25-14, 25-22, 25-20) victory over Bowling Green in the MAC Semifinals on Saturday. (RECAP) Miami ran into a hot-hitting Northern Illinois team in the Mid-American Conference Championship on Sunday. The second-seeded Huskies took a 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-20) victory to earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. (RECAP) This Week: The RedHawks are idle this week. They will learn if their resume is good enough for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament when the selection show airs Sunday at 9 p.m. on ESPNU.
Men's Basketball
Last Week: A busy week saw Miami (2-3 overall) go 1-3, including a 1-2 performance at the Tarkett Sports Classic. Michael Weathers averaged 23.8 points per game during the week and earned a spot on the Tarkett All-Tournament Team. Down 21 at the half, the Miami University men's basketball team came all the way back to take a two-point lead before ultimately falling, 89-87, on the road at Wright State Tuesday evening. (RECAP) Freshman Michael Weathers' 75-foot heave caught nothing but net, but was deemed after the buzzer as Miami University suffered a 68-66 loss to Delaware on day one of the Tarkett Sports Classic at Millett Hall. (RECAP) In a choppy contest dominated by fouls, the RedHawks were able to grind out a 76-70 victory over Austin Peay State University Saturday afternoon. (RECAP) Miami could not overcome a poor shooting day from the field, falling to the Northern Kentucky University Norse 79-70 on Sunday to conclude the Tarkett Sports Classic. (RECAP) This Week: Miami returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Western Illinois at 3:30 p.m. The game will air on ESPN3.
Women's Basketball
Last Week: The RedHawks (2-1 overall) split their two road games last week. Lauren Dickerson put up 20 points in her second collegiate game to help Miami top Northern Kentucky, 60-50, on Tuesday night. (RECAP) Gunning for its first 3-0 start since 2004-05, the RedHawks struggled shooting the ball in a 77-43 loss at Morehead State on Saturday afternoon. (RECAP) This Week: Miami has its home opener when it hosts Cincinnati for the annual Goals for Life game on Tuesday at noon. The students of Talawanda Middle School will be in attendance. The RedHawks will then travel to Wilmington, North Carolina for the UNCW Hampton Inn Thanksgiving Classic over the weekend. Miami will take on La Salle on Saturday and Providence on Sunday with both games starting at noon.
Hockey
Last Week: Miami faced a stiff test going on the road to face No. 1 Denver and held its own. The Red and White got a goal out of Grant Hutton 1:59 into Friday night's series opener and maintained a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes despite being outshot 18-3. The Pioneers eventually tied the score up in the second period, but that was the last puck to go into either net for the remainder of the run of play as the teams played to a 1-1 tie. After a scoreless 3-on-3 overtime, the contest went to a shootout where Denver prevailed to nab the extra point (RECAP). After making 38 saves in Friday's opener, Ryan Larkin posted 49 more to keep the Red and White close with the Pioneers. Miami erased a 1-0 deficit on a second period goal by Willie Knierim, but still trailed 2-1 after 40 minutes. Ryan Siroky evened the score at 2-2 with 4:09 to go in regulation. Once again, the contest went through both overtimes without another goal and DU once again nabbed the second point with a shootout win (RECAP). This Week: The RedHawks are idle until Dec. 2 when they open a non-conference series at Cornell.
Cross Country
Last Week: Maria Scavuzzo made her NCAA Championship debut on Saturday, finishing 209th with a time of 21:37.7 (RECAP). This Week: The cross country season has concluded for Miami.
