
Men and Women 'Hawks Both Finish 12th at Regionals

MADISON, Wis. - The RedHawk men and women's cross country teams both took home 12th place finishes at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Friday.
The women scored a total of 360 points with a total time of 1:48.09. The men scored 361 with a time of 2:40.45.
In the women's 6K, junior Maria Scavuzzo finished 20th overall - fourth among all Mid-American Conference competitors - with a time of 20:32.3. Sophomore Maria Weisgerber took 74th after turning in a 21:41.3. In her first NCAA regional, freshman Carly Davis' 21:53.9 earned her 85th place. A few strides behind her, junior Allison Klonne's time of 21:55.1 netted her 86th place. In 99th was sophomore Kelsey Kohls with a time of 22:06.6 to round out the scoring five. Elsewhere in the lineup, sophomore Alexis Szivan took 140th and freshman Alexa VanderHoff was 153rd.
"It was a great weekend for the women," Director of Cross Country/Track and Field Tom Chorny said. "Of the seven women racing, six of them set personal records."
Junior Matthew Bromley led the men in their 10K, finishing 50th with a time of 31:46.3. Junior Andrew Dusing's 32:00.8 earned him 62nd place. In 71st was junior Jake Brumfield with a time of 32:08.3. Junior Stephen Biebelhausen finished 78th with a 32:13.5. David Coffey, after earning MAC Freshman of the Year following the MAC Championships, placed 100th with a 32:36.4. Freshman Bradley Davis took 122nd after turning in a 33:02.7. Sophomore Ben Metzger's 33:51.1 was good for 159th place.
"Only three of the men had previously run a 10K, and each of them set new PR's," Chorny said.
Any individual runners earning at-large bids to the NCAA Championship in Terre Haute, Ind., will be announced Saturday.
