OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University's baseball team announced Friday the signing of three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. The trio will be joining the RedHawks for the 2017-18 season.
The class features shortstop/second baseman Everrett Harris (Frisco, Texas), outfielder Parker Massman (Carmel, Ind.) and infielder/right-handed pitcher Reid Norberg (San Diego, Calif.).
"I'm really excited about this class. We have addressed some needs from an athletic standpoint," said Miami head coach Danny Hayden. "These three guys are all really dynamic young men. They can all play multiple positions well and will make life tough on opposing pitchers. We knew this was going to be a smaller class, but in no way does that mean this class won't have an enormous impact on the growth of the Miami baseball program. I can't wait to get these young men on campus!"
EVERRETT HARRIS
SS/2B/UT
5-11/190
Frisco, Texas/Frisco
About Harris: Hit .407 last season with 13 doubles, 2 home runs and 27 RBI … made First Team Infield on Texas 9-5A All-District Team … named to Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association All-State Team as Second Team second baseman
Coach Hayden's Outlook: "Everrett is a special athlete with even better make-up. I am excited about all the talent he brings to our team, but there is a lot more to Everrett than his baseball ability. He poses some real leadership qualities and he plays the game the right way every day. We are really looking forward to seeing how quickly he can get on the field for us next year. If he continues to work like he has to this point, he could be a big contributor early in his college career."
PARKER MASSMAN
OF
6-0/175
Carmel, Ind./Carmel
About Massman: 6-foot 165-pound centerfielder uses above average speed and athleticism to cover ground in the field. At the plate, starts open and upright with a stride toward the plate. Level to slightly uphill swing plane. Gap-gap line drives … 27th ranked prospect in Indiana … seventh-ranked outfielder in state (Prep Baseball Report) … named to Perfect Game Underclass High Honorable Mention Team in 2015 and 2016
Coach Hayden's Outlook: "Parker is a really good outfielder who can play plus defense in all three spots. I think he will be a good hitter early in his college career who will develop some real power later in his career. He is an aggressive, tough guy who will fit in really well with our team."
REID NORBERG
INF/RHP
6-2/182
San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch
About Norberg: Named to Perfect Game Underclass Honorable Mention Team in 2016 … selected to All-Tournament Team for Perfect Game MLK Championship in Jan. 2016 … selected to Team California at Perfect Game Underclass All-American Games in Aug. 2015
Coach Hayden's Outlook: "Reid is a really good ball player. He has all the tools you evaluate as a coach. The best of those tools I believe will be his bat. He is a big, strong kid that has a really good swing and I think he will develop some big-time pop. He is another tough guy that I think our team will really like being around."
