OXFORD, Ohio -- For their performances last week junior hockey forward Anthony Louis and senior women's swimmer Sara Krueger are Miami's Athletes of the Week for the week of Jan. 11-17.
Louis was the hero for Miami as it closed its five-game home stand with a 2-1 victory over No. 16 Bowling Green on Saturday. Louis contributed to both RedHawk tallies, recording the primary assist on Alex Gacek's tying goal in the second period before one-timing a shot home with two seconds left in regulation to give the Red and White a much-needed victory. That performance was Louis' fourth multi-point game of the season and gives him 15 points (4g, 11a) this season.
This is the first time this season and second time in his career that Louis has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week. He last won it for the week of March 17-23, 2014.
Krueger led the RedHawks to a 178-118 victory over Cincinnati on Wednesday night. Krueger led two different 1-2-3 finishes for the RedHawks. She finished first in the 50-yard freestyle (24.22), with seniors Natalie Rohr (24.62) and Gabby Veri (24.72) right behind her. Krueger also clocked in first in the 100-yard freestyle (52.80). Krueger's other individual race was the 200-yard freestyle relay, where she finished in third place (1:55.31). They ended the night with the 400-yard freestyle relay, where the first-place team, consisting of Krueger, clocked in at 3:32.52.
This is the first time this season and in in her career that Krueger has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week.
The next Miami Athletes of the Week will be announced Monday, Jan. 25.
