MADISON, Wis. - After holding tough defensively over the first four possessions, Wisconsin broke through with a 24-point second quarter to pull away from the Miami football team, 58-0, at Camp Randall Stadium on Saturday.

The Badgers scored on their opening possession when they drove 71 yards in 11 plays to get deep into RedHawk territory. It appeared that UW quarterback Joel Stave converted a first down to the Miami three on a checkdown to Dara Ogunbowale, but a review determined Ogunbowale's knee was down when he caught the ball at the 11. The ensuing fourth down saw Rafael Gaglianone hit a 29-yard field goal to put the Badgers on top 3-0.

Miami's first possession saw it gain nine yards in the first two plays, eight of which came on a deflected Drew Kummer pass that fell into Sam Martin's hands, but Wisconsin was able to stuff a 3rd and 1 rush for no gain to force a punt.

The Red and White forced a Badger punt on their ensuing possession, but they fumbled on the subsequent punt return and UW recovered at MU's 14 yard line. Three plays later, Gaglianone made a 25-yard field goal to make it a 6-0 Wisconsin lead.

An interception on Miami's next drive set up UW in MU territory again, but the RedHawk defense again stood strong. Paul Moses sacked Stave to start the drive and two plays later a defensive three and out was completed as JT Jones forces Stave to throw short for an incomplete pass and another Badger punt.

The Badgers set up deep in Miami territory again when Alex Erickson returned a punt 35 yards to the 16. Three plays later, Stave hit Robert Wheelwright for a 13-yard touchdown pass to make it a 13-0 ballgame. In the second quarter, UW added to its lead with a 20-yard touchdown pass from Stave to Austin Traylor.

Miami followed that touchdown with its best drive of the day to that point, picking up four first downs and getting to Wisconsin's 20-yard line. The Badgers' defense tightened up after that, forcing three-straight incomplete passes to force a field goal, which went wide left to keep the score 20-0.

Stave attempted to push the ball down field on the play after the missed field goal, but Marshall Taylor held his coverage and intercepted the pass. Wisconsin answered with an interception of its own two plays later that put the ball at Miami's 4-yard line. UW found the end zone two plays later on a Taiwan Deal one-yard run to go up 27-0. Stave added another touchdown pass, a 15-yard toss to Wheelwright, and a last second field goal by Gaglianone put the Badgers into the locker room with a 37-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, Deal added another one-yard touchdown run while Ogunbowale scored from 35 yards out on the ground to extend the lead to 51-0 in the third quarter. Caleb Kinlaw caught a five-yard TD pass from Bart Houston in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring.

Wisconsin outgained Miami 451-157 on the day. Billy Bahl and Drew Kummer both saw action under center for the Red and White with Bahl leading the team with 98 yards on 7-of-20 passing. Rokeem Williams topped all MU receivers with 54 yards while Martin's four catches were a team high.

The RedHawks return to Yager Stadium for a Homecoming Battle for the Victory Bell on Sept. 19. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
