OXFORD, Ohio – For their performances last week senior golfer Scott Cahill and junior track and field thrower Amelia Strickler are Miami’s Athletes of the Week connected by Frontier Communications for the week of April 27-May 3.
Cahill had a career-best week as he led Miami to its first MAC Championship since 1996. Consistent all week, he shot rounds of 73-72-72-71 to finish the tournament tied for second at even par. He was only one shot behind the eventual winner. Cahill was rewarded with a spot on the All-Tournament Team and was also named Second-Team All-MAC for his efforts this season.
This is the first time this season and second time in his career that Cahill has been named Miami’s Male Athlete of the Week. He previously won it for the week of March 24-30, 2014.
Strickler continued her unbeaten streak by winning the shot put with a mark of 54-10.25 at the Dave Rankin Invitational over the weekend. Her throw set a new Miami outdoor record in the event, eclipsing the one she set earlier this season at the All-Ohio Championships. This mark puts Strickler in second place in the MAC and 11th in NCAA Division I standings.
This is the second time this season and her career that Strickler has been named Miami’s Female Athlete of the Week. She last won it the week of Jan. 26-Feb. 1.
