OXFORD, Ohio – For their performances last week men’s track and field senior Tyler Yee and tennis freshman Hannah Shteyn are Miami’s Athletes of the Week connected by Frontier Communications for the week of March 30-April 5.
Yee continued his strong start to the outdoor season by winning the javelin at the Miami Invitational over the weekend. The senior launched a top throw of 199-5 to claim the event by over 30 feet. That mark was just a few inches off of his season high of 199-9, though his throw on Saturday would still lead all MAC throwers.
This is the first time this season and in his career that Yee has been named Miami’s Male Athlete of the Week.
Shteyn went 4-0 last week to help Miami to a pair of key Mid-American Conference wins to move to 6-0 in league action this season. In a tight 4-3 road win at Eastern Michigan, Shteyn teamed up with Alix Thurman at No. 2 doubles for a 6-4 win that helped secure the doubles point. She then pounded out a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles to help clinch the match for the RedHawks. Facing a Toledo team that was tied for second in the MAC standings heading into Sunday’s match, Shteyn helped Miami blank the Rockets, 7-0. She and Thurman recorded a solid 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles and then notched a decisive 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles. Miami has now won 11-straight regular-season MAC matches dating back to last season.
This is the first time this season and in her career that Shteyn has been named Miami’s Female Athlete of the Week.
