Women's Tennis
Last Week: Behind a 4-1 win against Eastern Michigan in the semifinals (Recap) and a 4-0 win in the title match, Miami seized its third-straight MAC Women's Tennis Tournament title and fifth in program history. (Recap) Senior Alix Thurman was named MAC Tournament MVP, while freshman Hannah Shteyn was named to the All-Tournament Team. Earlier in the week, Thurman was named to the All-MAC First Team, while sophomore Andreea Badileanu earned second-team honors. (Release) Also last week, Thurman was named the final MAC Singles Player of the Week of 2015, while the first flight pair of senior Christine Guerrazzi and freshman Nelli Ponomareva were honored as the MAC Doubles Team of the Week for the second time this year. (Release) This Week: Miami will learn its opponent and destination for the NCAA Tournament on Tuesday. The opening rounds of the tournament run May 8-10.
Softball
Last Week: The RedHawks (29-20 overall; 12-6 MAC) went 5-1 on the week, including going a perfect 4-0 in Mid-American Conference play over the weekend. Miami earned a split with Butler in non-conference action on Tuesday. The RedHawks took the opener, 5-3. In a pitcher’s duel, the Bulldogs scored a run in the top of the seventh to gain a 2-1 win in the nightcap. (Recap) Thanks to a gritty all-around effort and some superb pitching from junior Amber Logemann, Miami earned a pair of 10-inning victories at Akron on Friday. The RedHawks took the first game, 1-0. They then came from behind to earn a 3-2 win in the nightcap. (Recap) Miami’s great weekend continued as it took a 4-1 victory over Ohio on Saturday. (Recap) The RedHawks completed a perfect weekend with an offensive explosion against Ohio on Sunday. Miami scored eight runs in the final two innings to take a 10-1 victory. (Recap) This Week: The RedHawks travel to Northern Kentucky for their final non-conference doubleheader of the season on Tuesday beginning at 2 p.m. Miami then hosts Ball State for single games on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. After Saturday’s game, the RedHawks will host a free clinic for kids 8-12. Prior to Sunday’s game, Miami’s six seniors will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
Golf
Last Week: Bud Radis led four individuals at the Cobra Puma Invitational in Xavier with an 11th place finish. (Day 1 Recap) (Day 2 Recap) This Week: The RedHawks head to Chardon, Ohio and the Sand Ridge Club for the Mid-American Conference Championship this week. Miami will play 36 holes on Friday and then single rounds of 18 holes each on Saturday and Sunday in the 72-hole event.
Track and Field
Last Week: A handful of MU’s top competitors went to the prestigious Drake and Penn Relays while the rest gutted through an inclement RedHawk Invitational in Oxford. Amelia Strickler shined for the Red and White at the Drake Relays by placing second in the shot put by tossing 53-5 amidst rainy weather. Laura Bess also put together a solid fifth-place showing in the 1500m (4:26.27) in Iowa. Over at Penn, Joe Stewart clocked a personal-best 5000m of 14:14.10 to finish ninth. Stormy weather conditions abbreviated the RedHawk Invitational, but not before eight first-place finishes for Miami. Both 4x100m relay teams were victorious while Brenna Poulsen (5000m), Sam Chester (110m hurdles), Jess Baker (high jump), Hope Turner (pole vault), Grant Cole and Sam Spallinger (long jump) and Andrew Vollet (shot put) posted individual first-place finishes (Recap). This Week: The RedHawk men head to the Kentucky Relays while the women are registered for the Dave Rankin Invitational at Purdue, both meets are on Saturday.
Synchronized Skating
This Week: All three teams will perform in the annual Miami University Ice Show this weekend, May 1-2. (More Information)
Baseball
Last Week: The RedHawks began the week with a trip to Wright State. The Raiders got the best of Miami as the Red & White fell in extra innings, 8-7 on a walk-off single (Recap). This past weekend, the RedHawks hosted Kent State in a marquee MAC East matchup. Akron took the first game of the series as they edged Miami, 4-3 (Recap). Satuurday's matchup got postponed due to the inclement weather, so Sunday featured a doubleheader. Both games were pitcher's duals. Miami fell in game one, 1-0, as Akron's starter earned a complete game shutout (Recap). Miami claimed the series finale and game two of the doubleheader, 2-0. The game's only runs came in the bottom of the seventh as Adam Yacek and Max Andresen belted back-to-back solo home runs. Ryan Powers earned his first complete game, posting a career-high nine innings. He walked just one KSU batter and struck out eight to complete the shutout (Recap). This Week: The RedHawks begin the week on the road as they travel to Eastern Kentucky to begin a home-and-home series with the Colonels which will conlcude Wednesday in Oxford. Then, the 'Hawks will remain home for the second consecutive weekend to host Eastern Michigan.
