MU Prepares For Two Midweek Mathcups

ON TAP: The RedHawks (4-19, 2-4 MAC) travel to Louisville, Kentucky to take on the Cardinals of Louisville in a one-game matchup on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the Red & White return home to host the Thundering Herd of Marshall.
ABOUT No. 7 LOUISVILLE (21-7, 11-1 ACC): The Cardinals are off to a great start to the season. Most recently, Louisville is coming off a sweep of No. 28 Georgia Tech. In terms of common opponents, UL faced Xavier earlier this season, going 2-1 against the Musketeers. Last season, the team won 50 games and made it to the College World Series.
SERIES HISTORY: The RedHawks lead the all-time series 12-7. The two teams last met last season in a three-game series. At the time, UL was ranked No. 10 in the nation. The Red & White were able to steal the first game of the series before falling in the next two.
ABOUT MARSHALL (8-18, 2-7 C-USA): The Thundering Herd have had a slower start to the season. Most recently, the team is coming of three-game series loss to Florida International. Marshall won the middle game of the series. In terms of common opponents, the Thundering Herd faced Mississippi State back in February, going 0-2 against the Bulldogs.
SERIES HISTORY: The Red & White are 70-27 all-time against Marshall. The two teams last met in Miami’s season opener at the College of Charleston Invitational in 2011. The Thundering Herd earned a 4-3 win.
LAST WEEKEND: The RedHawks dropped all three games of their conference series against Central Michigan. The latter two games saw the Red & White drop back-to-back one-run contests.
HONCHEL RISING: Honchel has moved up the career batting average list and currently sits at sixth all-time with a .358 average. In addition, he enters the week tied for third all-time in career hits at Miami with 261. This season, Honchel is off to a hot start, boasting a .414 batting average with eight doubles, 12 runs scored and 12 runs batted in. In addition, he leads the RedHawks with 11 multi-hit games and has reached base safely in 22 of 23 games this season. He has gotten at least one hit in 19 of 23 games this season.
SOLID SEDIO: Chad Sedio has become a staple for the Miami baseball team at shortstop. The junior is hitting .322 and has a .404 on-base percentage. He is a career .306 hitter and has been a solid piece of the lineup during his time at Miami. He has reached base safely in 21 straight games and has ten multi-hit games. He also leads the team with 16 runs scored.
YACEK GETTING IT DONE: Sophomore Adam Yacek earned himself a .313 batting average over the span of four games this past week. He also scored one run while nothing two runs batted in. In Sunday’s game against Central Michigan, the sophomore hit a home run, his second of the season. While he did appear sporadically at the beginning of the season, Yacek has become a regular in the Miami lineup. His .346 season batting average and .538 slugging percentage ranks second on the team in both categories. Defensively, he has yet to commit an error.
