Chippewas Edge RedHawks, 4-3

OXFORD, Ohio – Despite jumping out to a 3-1 lead, the RedHawks (4-18, 2-3 MAC) fell to the Chippewas (17-10, 4-1 MAC), 4-3 Saturday in game two of their conference series.
CMU got on the board first in the top of the first. A sac fly put them up 1-0 after one inning of play.
Miami came back swinging in the bottom of the third. With the bases loaded and two out, Matt Honchel singled to left center, allowing Gary Russo and Ryan Elble to score. The next at-bat, Adam Yacek singled, scoring Chad Sedio from second base. The RedHawks led 3-1 after three innings.
A passed ball and an RBI single allowed CMU to tie things up in the top of the sixth. Then, in the top of the seventh, CMU took the lead for good on an RBI single.
Miami made things interesting in the bottom of the ninth. Back-to-back two-out singles by Sedio and Honchel put runners on first and second for the ‘Hawks. Adam Yacek came up to the plate and had himself a good at-bat, fouling off several pitches, before lining out to the first baseman.
With three hits today, Matt Honchel moves into sole possession of fourth all-time in career hits at Miami with 260.
The RedHawks return to action tomorrow at 1 p.m. against the Chippewas. Senior Nathan Williams is slated to take the mound for the Red & White.
