DAYTON, Ohio – In their first of four scheduled meetings this season, the RedHawks (4-16, 2-1 MAC) fell to Wright State (16-6, 6-0 Horizon), 7-3 Tuesday.
The Raiders jumped out to an early lead, scoring three in the bottom of the first. A single, a throwing error, and a double allowed WSU to score their runs. The Raider lead was 3-0 after one inning of play.
Miami got back into the game in the top of the third. Spencer Dull started off the inning with a single. After back-to-back outs, Chad Sedio ripped a double deep down the right field line, scoring Dull all the way from first. The very next at-bat, Matt Honchel doubled to left center, allowing Sedio to score. After two and half innings, the Raider lead was 3-2.
The Raiders added another run in the bottom of the fourth on an infield single. Sedio made a diving play to keep the ball in the infield, but the WSU baserunner beat out the throw home. WSU lead 4-2 through four innings.
WSU extended their lead in the bottom of the sixth. A one-run single and a two-run double pushed the Raider lead to 7-2 through six.
The RedHawks cut into the lead in the top of the eighth. Sedio led off the inning with an infield single. After a strikeout, Adam Yacek singled, but a throwing error allowed him to make it to second base. Sedio scored on the play to cut the Raider lead to 7-3.
That would be the end of the scoring for the day. Miami now shifts its focus back to conference play as they host Central Michigan this weekend in their Mid-American Conference home opener. First pitch on Friday is set for 6 p.m. A preview of this weekend's series will be on MURedHawks.com tomorrow afternoon.
