Men's Basketball
Last Week: Capping off a busy week of basketball, Miami won the Men Against Breast Cancer Challenge with a 67-61 win against Northeastern on Sunday to hand the Huskies their first loss of the season. (Recap) Miami opened the tournament with a 70-68 win against Lipscomb on Friday (Recap) before falling to Florida Atlantic on Saturday, 75-69. (Recap) Senior guard Eric Washington and sophomore forward Rod Mills were named to the All-Tournament Team. Earlier in the week, Miami won its 89th home opener in the 111th season of the program with a 68-47 triumph over Kenyon. (Recap) Next Week: There's little time for rest as Miami hosts IPFW on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 7 p.m. and UCF Saturday, Nov. 28 at 1:30 p.m. Both games will be aired on ESPN3. Tuesday's game is a Two For Tuesday with a buy one, get one offer on adult-priced tickets. Saturday's game is the first McFamily and Friends day with four tickets and four McDonald's Extra Value Meal vouchers for just $30. Both are pre-purchase offers and will not be available at the gate.
Hockey
Last Week: Miami returned home for its final games at Steve 'Coach' Cady Arena in the first half of the season when it hosted sixth-ranked Omaha over the weekend. After a scoreless first period in Friday's opener, the second period saw four goals scored in the first 5:55 of play. Goals by Anthony Louis and Matthew Caito erased deficits of 1-0 and 2-1 before Jack Roslovic scored a power play goal late to make it 3-2 MU after 40 minutes. Austin Ortega scored in the third to send the game to overtime and after the five minute session, the teams went to 3-on-3 hockey to battle for the second point of the night, which Miami secured thanks to Louie Belpedio's goal 49 seconds in (Recap). The RedHawks fell behind 2-0 early in the second period in Saturday's finale, but doggedly fought back thanks to goals by Anthony Louis and Kiefer Sherwood that left the contest tied 2-2 after two periods. After a back-and-forth battle in the third left the score unchanged, the contest went into overtime for the second-straight game, where Jake Randolph finished a 2-on-1 rush with just 1:46 left in OT to down the RedHawks, 3-2 (Recap). This Week: Miami is idle until Dec. 4, when it starts a two-game series at Colorado College.
Cross Country
Last Week: The cross country season wrapped up for the Red and White with Joe Stewart racing at the NCAA National Championships in Louisville, Ky. Stewart posted a time of 30:42.1 over the 10K course to finish 66th overall against the best of college cross country (Recap). This was the second year in a row that Stewart raced at the national championships, he was the first RedHawk to do this since Pat Sovacol did it in 2007 and 2008. This Week: The RedHawks are off until December 5th when the women will begin the indoor track and field season at the IPFW Mastodon Opener.
Football
Last Week: Miami football snapped a 22-game road losing streak last Saturday in a 20-13 win over UMass. Alonzo Smith ran for a career-high 109 yards and one touchdown while the defense held a powerful UMass offense to just 250 total yards, recording six sacks and an interception. (Recap) Next Week: Miami finished the 2015 season with a 3-9 overall and 2-6 MAC record.
Volleyball
Last Week: The RedHawks advanced to the MAC Semifinals, winning a quarterfinal match against Western Michigan before bowing out, 1-3 in the semifinals against top seed Northern Illinois. A year after being knocked out by Western Michigan in the Mid-American Conference Tournament, the fourth seeded Miami University volleyball team returned the favor, winning its second round match over the fifth seeded Broncos 3-1 (25-23, 16-25, 25-19, 25-19) Friday evening. (Recap) The Red and White battled for every point, but came up just short in a 1-3 (23-25, 25-19, 23-25, 23-25) loss to Northern Illinois in the Mid-American Conference semifinals on Saturday evening. (Recap) Earlier in the week, three RedHawks were honored with spots on the All-MAC teams. (Release) Next Week: Miami's season is complete. It finished with a 21-10 record and 12-4 in the Mid-American Conference.
Women's Basketball
Last Week: Miami had a strong week, finishing 2-0 after a pair of home victories. Sophomore guard Baleigh Reid recorded a career-high 29 points to go along with eight rebounds to help the Miami University women's basketball team secure a double overtime victory over Evansville, 91-85. (Recap) For the second consecutive game the Miami was able to drive the ball inside and shoot at high percentage as it downed Austin Peay, 75-60, Thursday evening. Reid led the way once again with 20 points. (Recap) Next Week: Miami has another pair of home games coming up this week. First on Tuesday the RedHawks host Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday for a noon contest. That is the annual Goals for Life game and will see 800 middle school students from Talawanda Middle School in attendance. On Sunday, Miami welcomes Morehead State to Millett Hall for a 4 p.m. contest. Both games will air live on ESPN3.
