RedHawks Race Hard at MAC Championships

CANTON, Ohio - The Miami University cross country program took to the course at Glen Oak Community Park in pursuit of the Mid-American Conference Championship on Saturday morning.
Joe Stewart finished third in the men's race for the second season in a row, finishing the 8K in 24:21.15. Zack McBride finished 10th, clocking in at 24:49, to help lead Miami to a third place overall finish in the team standings with 70 points. Three of Miami's scorers had top-25 finishes. Andrew Dusing (25:36.3; 24th) was third for the RedHawks while Matt Bromley (25:38.5; 26th), Cody Riesterer (25:43.6; 28th), Matt Dietrich (25:58.2; 38th) and Ben Metzger (26:24.4; 54th) rounded out the scoring squad for the Red and White. Bromley's time marked a new personal best on a tough conference championship course. Stewart garnered first team All-MAC honors for the Red and White while McBride earned a spot with the second team.
In the women's race, Laura Bess was Miami's top finisher, clocking in at 21:27.2 over the 6K, leading Miami to a sixth-place team finish with 143 points. Bess' effort was good for ninth place individually and earned her second-team All-MAC honors post race. Maria Scavuzzo was second in the scoring for the RedHawks with a time of 22:06.4, which was good for 25th. Brenna Poulsen posted a time of 22:14.8 for the third scoring spot (33rd overall) with the `Hawks. Alesha Vovk (22:27.1; 39th), Megan Beaver (22:28.5; 40th), Sarah Starrett (22:51.2; 53rd) and Lauren Hoover (23:01.9; 60th) rounded out the scoring for the RedHawks.
Eastern Michigan swept all of the top honors at the conference meet with both team titles heading to Ypsilanti, along with individual honors going to Nicholas Raymond and Alsu Bogdanova.
The final team standings for the men were Eastern Michigan (26 points), Akron (70), Miami (88), Central Michigan (100), Ohio (128), Buffalo (150), Bowling Green (189), Kent State (202) and Toledo (227). On the women's side the final standings were Eastern Michigan (55 points), Bowling Green (72), Central Michigan (73), Western Michigan (118), Buffalo (134), Miami (143), Northern Illinois (147), Ohio (177), Toledo (220), Kent State (271), Akron (316) and Ball State (363).
The RedHawks will return to action at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships on Nov. 11 at the University of Wisconsin's Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course.
