OXFORD, Ohio -- For their performances last week freshman hockey forward Jack Roslovic and junior volleyball middle hitter Paige Hill are Miami's Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 12-18.
Roslovic had quite the coming out party against Ohio State over the weekend. The Columbus, Ohio native flashed his clutch ability in front of hometown fans by lighting the lamp on a rebound with 1:33 left in the third period to snap a 2-2 tie for his first-collegiate game-winning goal. Roslovic was at it again the next night as he set up Josh Melnick for a back door one-timer to put Miami on top 1-0 in the first period, then snapped a 1-1 tie with 6:04 left in the second period by corralling a turnover at the Buckeye blue line, splitting the defense down the right wing and roofing a shot short side to give Miami a lead it wouldn't relinquish. All three of his points put Miami ahead and Saturday's effort was the freshman forward's first-career multi-point game. He has posted a team-high five points through the RedHawks' first four games.
This is the first time this season and in his career that Roslovic has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week.
Hill was once again the leader of the Miami offense, finishing with 23 kills and a .404 attack percentage in leading the RedHawks to a pair of wins last week. She also contributed mightily to the blocking game, finishing with eight total blocks (three solo and five assisted). She scored 28.5 points total in the two matches. In Miami's 3-2 win over Central Michigan, Hill finished with 13 kills and made only one error in 26 attempts for a .462 attack percentage. She had four kills to take over the fifth set and lead Miami to a 15-9 win, and finished the match with four blocks (two solo and two assisted). Hill was back at it with 10 kills and four blocks (one solo and three assisted) to lead the Red and White to a 3-1 win over Eastern Michigan on Friday.
This is the second time this season and fourth time in her career that Hill has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week. She last won it for the week of Sept. 28-Oct. 4.
The next Miami Athletes of the Week will be announced Monday, October 26.
