Women’s Basketball
Last Week: Miami (3-13 overall, 0-5 MAC) fell in a pair of MAC home games. Senior guard Courtney Larson and freshman guard Kayla Brown had career nights and the RedHawks held Central Michigan to just 36.8 percent shooting, but could not finish off a comeback bid in a 60-54 loss on Wednesday night. (Recap) Miami played Akron even throughout the first half, but a 17-0 run to begin the second half allowed the Zips to pull away and take a 65-47 victory on Saturday in Millett Hall. (Recap) This Week: The RedHawks hit the road for both games this week. Miami travels to Eastern Michigan on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The ‘Hawks then head to Bowling Green Saturday for a 2 p.m. matinee.
Men’s Basketball
Last Week: Junior guard Eric Washington scored 23 points but it was not enough as Miami fell at Central Michigan, 105-77 last Wednesday. (Recap) Senior guard Will Sullivan recorded his second double-double in three games with 14 points and 11 rebounds in a 77-68 loss at Buffalo. (Recap) This Week: Miami makes a brief stop at home on Wednesday, Jan. 21 when the RedHawks host Western Michigan at 7 p.m. MU then heads to Northern Illinois for a 4 p.m. (ET) game on Saturday, Jan. 24. The game will be aired on ESPN3.
Synchronized Skating
Last Week: It was a golden weekend for the Miami collegiate and junior teams as both teams seized first-place finishes at the Mid-America Championships on Saturday. The junior team won both the short program and free skate events, while the collegiate team notched its second first-place finish of the season. There was not combined scoring at the event. (Recap) This Week: The senior team is back in action when they travel to the Mozart Cup in Salzburg, Austria Jan. 23-24.
Men’s Swimming & Diving
Last Week: Senior Joe Baumgartner paced the RedHawks with three individual first-place finish and a relay win against Buffalo on Friday. Miami was clipped by the Bulls, 168-132. (Recap) This Week: Miami is idle until Jan. 31 when it travels to Eastern Michigan.
Women’s Swimming & Diving:
Last Week: Sophomore Stephanie LeMire paced the RedHawks in a 182.5-117.5 win against Buffalo on Friday. LeMire won three individual events and was part of a first-place relay. (Recap) LeMire was named MAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week last week for her efforts in Miami’s win against Cincinnati. (Release) This Week: Miami travels to Ball State for a 1 p.m. meet on Saturday, Jan. 24.
Women’s Tennis
Last Week: Miami had a strong opening day at the FGCU Invitational. Two pairs advanced to the finals and six individuals came away with victories. (Recap) On their final day of competition at the FGCU Invitational, Miami University’s women’s tennis team closed out play in impressive fashion with a doubles title, the clinching of a bracket, and two placements in singles championships. In all, the RedHawks came away with nine singles victories on the day and filled five spots in the singles semifinals. (Recap) This Week: Miami begins dual match play when it travels to Indiana on Saturday, Jan. 24.
Women’s Track & Field
Last Week: The RedHawks fared well in the Kentucky Invitational over the weekend. On Friday, Miami enjoyed a runner-up finish by the distance medley relay (11:48.88) and Ashley Frahm led three RedHawk performers with a 14th-place weight throw of 16.14m in a light opening day of competition (Recap). Amelia Strickler headlined the RedHawks in the final day by setting a new indoor shot put record when she tossed a throw of 52-4 to automatically qualify for the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships. Alexus Jimson-Miller also qualified for the conference meet by finishing the 60m hurdles in 8.48 (Recap). This Week: Miami heads over to Bowling Green for the Tom Wright Classic on Saturday.
