MISSION STATEMENT
The goal of Miami RedHawk Strength & Conditioning is to maximize every athlete's potential through the use of safe, effective, and time-efficient training protocols with an emphasis on intensity and execution, while minimizing the risk of injury. We place a priority on discipline, work ethic, attitude, and pride in one’s self and the program as a whole.
Student-athletes train consistently, sensibly, and systematically by design. We employ a wide variety of evidence-based training methodologies with the best interest of the student athlete in mind at all times.
STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING STAFF
| PAUL HARKER DIRECTOR OF STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING Paul Harker begins his fourth full season as Miami University’s Director of Strength and Conditioning in 2014. He was originally named to the position in February of 2011. Harker will serve as administrator for Miami’s entire strength and conditioning and be directly responsible for training the RedHawk football team. He also is a member of Miami Athletics’ Advisory Council. |

Located in the Walter L. Gross Student Athlete Development Center, the varsity weight room boasts 10,000 square feet of floor space and houses a multitude of training options. Featuring 18 Pendulum Half Racks, the weight room also includes a full upper- and lower-body line of Pendulum plate-loaded equipment by Rogers Athletic, 2 sets of dumbbells ranging from 5lbs-150lbs, multiple custom bars and implements, and a variety of cardio equipment. Over the course of the training year, student-athletes coached in the Gross Center weight room will be exposed to a wide range of training modalities including, but not limited to, Olympic based programming, power lifting, High Intensity Training (HIT), TRX/bodyweight exercises, metabolic circuits, and strongman-based exercises.
MIAMI UNIVERSITY STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING INTERNSHIP
Description: Miami University is accepting applications for the position of Strength & Conditioning Intern for the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. The RedHawks are a member of the Mid-American Conference, and currently sponsor 18 Division I Varsity intercollegiate athletic programs. Successful candidates will be required to schedule and maintain a minimum of 15-20 hours with the Strength & Conditioning Department. Daily responsibilities will include:
1. Assisting with supervision and execution of strength training programs for assigned teams.
2. Teaching student athletes proper lifting techniques and equipment use.
3. Attending to the daily maintenance of the training facilities.
4. Participation in weekly projects and assignments throughout the internship program.
5. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Strength & Conditioning.
Compensation: Internships are not eligible for monetary compensation. However, interns will earn valuable Division I Intercollegiate experience; recommendation toward further opportunities in the field (dependent on performance); gear; and college credit towards graduation, if applicable.
Qualifications: Required -- must have a strong work ethic and have a desire to become a Strength & Conditioning professional. Preferred -- junior or senior status in a bachelor’s degree program geared toward Exercise Physiology or a related field, bachelor’s degree, C.S.C.S, SCCC, or USAW, and CPR certification
