Miami Athletes of the Week

OXFORD, Ohio – For their performances last week cross country runners junior Joe Stewart and senior Jess Hoover are Miami’s Athletes of the Week connected by Frontier Communications for the week of Sept. 8-14.
In his first race of the season, Stewart already proved to be ahead of former teammate and 2013 MAC runner-up Dave Wing's pace from a year ago. Stewart placed second in the Miami Invitational 5K, topping all RedHawk runners on Saturday morning. This marked the first time that Stewart has been the Red and White's top finisher on the course in his career.
This is the first time in Stewart’s career he has earned Miami’s Male Athlete of the Week honor.
Big performances are becoming a common theme for Hoover, who won the Miami Invitational by nearly 14 seconds on Saturday morning. Hoover has been Miami's top finisher in the last 10 cross country meets that she has run in, a streak that dates back to the end of the 2012 season.
This is the first time this season and fourth time in her career that Hoover has earned Miami’s Female Athlete of the Week honor. She last won it for the week of Sept. 16-22, 2013.
