VOLLEYBALL
Last Week: The RedHawks (16-8 overall, 9-3 MAC) upped their winning streak to seven with a pair of victories. After falling to the University at Buffalo a little over a month ago, the Miami team got a measure of revenge with a 3-1 (25-14, 25-17, 24-26, 25-21) victory over the Bulls on Friday. (Recap) (Photo Gallery) The winning streak reached seven as the RedHawks downed Akron, 3-1 (25-15, 24-26, 25-17, 25-14), on Saturday evening. The victory clinched a spot in the upcoming Mid-American Conference Tournament in three weeks. (Recap) This Week: Miami completes its long home stretch when it hosts Bowling Green on Thursday at 7 p.m. That match will be Senior Night and the seniors will be honored in a prematch ceremony. The RedHawks then travel to Western Michigan Saturday for a 7 p.m. contest.
MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
Last Week: Miami split a pair of meets last week. Aided by two first-place finishes from Bryan McNamara, Miami topped Cleveland State on Saturday, 120.5-108.5. (Recap) Earlier in the week, the RedHawks dropped a 207-92 decision to Purude. (Recap) This Week: Miami is off until hosting the Miami Invitational Dec. 4-6.
WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
Last Week: Miami was idle. This Week: The RedHawks return to the pool, hosting Butler at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8.
MEN'S BASKETBALL
This Week: Miami hosts Edinboro at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8 in its lone exhibition game of the season. Admission is free.
HOCKEY
Last Week: No. 10 Miami opened NCHC play on the road with series at No. 19 Minnesota Duluth. On Friday, the RedHawks outshot the Bulldogs 32-15 in the final two periods and pulled out a 3-2 win on the strength of Sean Kuraly’s 5-on-3 goal with 1:59 remaining in the third period (Recap). Miami nearly rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the series finale as Blake Coleman added two goals and one assist, with his second goal tying the score at 3-3 18 seconds into the third after a penalty shot. However, a UMD power play goal with 8:42 remaining left MU on the short end of a 4-3 score as it settled for a series split (Recap). This Week: Miami returns home to host Colorado College for a two-game series at Steve ‘Coach’ Cady Arena on Friday (7:35 p.m.) and Saturday (7:05 p.m.).
SOCCER
Last Week: The RedHawks closed their regular season on a high note as Kelsey Dinges scored twice in a 4-1 win at Ball State on Thursday (Recap). Miami entered the MAC Tournament as the No. 2 seeded and hosted Northern Illinois for a quarterfinal match on Sunday. The RedHawks outshot the Huskies 19-8 and had a pair of pretty good chances early in the second half, but ultimately played to a 0-0 tie after 110 minutes. NIU managed to outlast MU in penalty kicks by a 4-3 count, eliminating Miami from the conference tournament (Recap). Miami finishes the 2014 season with a 14-3-2 record.
MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Last Week: Joe Stewart ran a personal-best time of 24:21 to finish third place at the MAC Championship at Central Michigan. The junior earned First-Team All-MAC performance to lead the RedHawks in the effort. As a team, Miami took seventh in the nine-team meet (Recap). This Week: Miami is idle this week and runs again at the Great Lakes Region Championship on Nov. 14.
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Last Week: Jess Hoover set a school record in the 6K by finishing sixth at the MAC Championship with a time of 20:34. In their bid to repeat as team champions, the RedHawks finished third in the 12-team meet with 103 points (Recap). This Week: Miami is idle this week and runs again at the Great Lakes Region Championship on Nov. 14.
GOLF
Last Week: Miami placed seventh at the FGCU Classic. Freshman Patrick Flavin was the RedHawks’ top finisher in 15th place (Day 1 Recap) (Day 2 Recap) This Week: Miami has concluded play for the fall. The RedHawks will next be in action Feb. 9-10 when they participate in the annual Mid-American Match Play Championship.
FIELD HOCKEY
Last Week: Miami fell behind 3-0 in its regular season finale at Ball State on Saturday, but scored the final six goals of the game to come away with a 6-3 win. Five different RedHawks scored in the game with Geagy Pritchard scoring two goals and Brianna Stahl adding a goal and an assist (Recap). This Week: Miami will take a three-game winning streak into the MAC Tournament this weekend in Kent. The RedHawks are the three-seed and will open play against the host Golden Flashes at 2 p.m. on Friday. The winner will advance to play the winner of No. 1 Central Michigan and No. 4 Ohio on Saturday at 2 p.m. Miami has won the last two conference tournament titles.
FOOTBALL
Last Week: The Miami football team dropped a 41-10 decision last Saturday to Western Michigan on homecoming. Miami’s lone touchdown was when Andrew Hendrix connected with Dawan Scott on a 19-yard score and Kaleb Patterson added a career-long 52 yard field goal to cap Miami’s scoring (Recap). This Week: The RedHawks are off this week before traveling to Central Michigan on Nov. 15.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The women’s basketball team was picked to finish fifth in the MAC East Division in the preseason coaches’ poll released on Wednesday. (Release)
WOMEN'S TENNIS
Last Week: Miami concluded its fall season at the Scwartz Challenge hosted by Purdue. (Day 1 Recap) (Day 2 Recap) This Week: Miami is idle until January.
