ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Miami University women’s basketball team hits the road for the first time this season when it travels to Oakland on Friday for a 7 p.m. game. Tim Bray has the call and it can be heard live on Miami All-Access for those who have a subscription. Live video will be available on ESPN3.com.
TWO DOUBLE-DOUBLES FOR SECOND STRAIGHT GAME: For the second consecutive contest to begin the season, two Miami players recorded double-doubles. Freshman guard Ana Richter continued the remarkable start to her RedHawk career by recording her second in as many games. She finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds. WINNING THE BATTLE OF THE BOARDS: Going into Saturday’s matchup, UIC had been outrebounding opponents by an average of 19.0 caroms per game. Miami ended up winning the rebounding battle, 41-35. After outrebounding Cincinnati Christian, 49-32, in the opener, the RedHawks are now +11.5 per game in rebound margin. Freshman guard Ana Richter leads Miami with 10.0 boards per game. Junior forward Hannah McCue is averaging 7.5 per game, while redshirt sophomore forward Tamira Ford is averaging 6.5 rebounds per contest.
ABOUT OAKLAND: The Golden Grizzlies are 1-2 on the season. After falling to Miami (Fla.) and UCF on the road, they returned home to defeat Chicago State, 66-40, in their last contest on Sunday. Prior to facing the RedHawks, Oakland will travel to Michigan State for a game on Wednesday. Junior forward Olivia Nash has been the star for the Golden Grizzlies early on this season. She is averaging 14.0 points and 9.7 rebounds per game.
SERIES WITH OAKLAND: This the first ever meeting between Miami and Oakland.
MIAMI VS. HORIZON LEAGUE: The Horizon League is made up of nine schools in the same geographical footprint as the MAC. With so many of the schools located relatively close to Miami, the RedHawks will often schedule them for non-conference tilts. The RedHawks are 22-5 vs. Wright State, 7-1 vs. Cleveland State, 6-3 vs. Youngstown State, 3-2 vs. Detroit, 1-0 vs. Green Bay, 1-1 vs. Milwaukee, 1-2 vs. UIC and 6-0 vs. Valparaiso.
UP NEXT FOR THE REDHAWKS: Miami continues its road trip with a strong challenge as it travels to 16th-ranked Michigan State on Sunday for a 2 p.m. contest. Tim Bray will have the call and it can be heard live on Miami All-Access for those who have a subscription.
