OXFORD, Ohio – For their performances last week cross country runners senior hockey player Blake Coleman and volleyball senior setter/right side hitter Meg Riley are Miami’s Athletes of the Week connected by Frontier Communications for the week of Nov. 17-24.
Coleman regained his scoring touch against Western Michigan, scoring in both games and having a hand in four of the RedHawks' six goals over the weekend. The senior netted the game's lone tally with a power play goal just 3:40 into Friday's series-opening 1-0 victory. He was a force on the ice the next night as his goal put Miami in front for good and he added two more assists to give the Red and White the breathing room they needed in a weekend sweep. Coleman is now second on the RedHawks with 15 points (3rd in the NCHC) and has 31 points (20g, 11a) in his last 25 games dating back to last season.
This is the first time this season and second in his career that Coleman has been named Miami’s Male Athlete of the Week. He last won it for the week of March 3-9, 2014.
Riley had a fantastic MAC Tournament performance as she helped lead the RedHawks to the championship match for the first time since 2007. She tied for the team lead with 34 kills on the weekend, an average of 2.62 per set. She also had 29 digs and five blocks. In the MAC Championship against Western Michigan, Riley recorded her 16th career double-double, finishing with 19 kills, 25 assists and 11 digs.
This is the third time this season and sixth time in her career that Riley has earned Miami’s Female Athlete of the Week honor. She last won it for the week of Nov. 3-9.
