OXFORD, Ohio – For their performances last week cross country runners junior Joe Stewart and senior Jess Hoover are Miami’s Athletes of the Week connected by Frontier Communications for the week of Nov. 10-16.
Stewart ran a phenomenal 10K race at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championship, placing eighth out of the 207-runner field to earn all-region honors. Furthermore, Stewart became the first Miami male cross country runner since Pat Sovacol to qualify for the NCAA Championship. Stewart's time of 30:29 was a personal best in the 10K and made him the only Mid-American Conference runner to qualify for the national race.
This is the third time this season and in his career that Stewart has been named Miami’s Male Athlete of the Week. He previously won it for the week of Oct. 27-Nov. 2.
Hoover once again paced the Miami women's cross country team by placing 23rd at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional. The senior took 23rd after finishing the 6K in 20:41, her second fastest 6K of the season. That finish earned her a spot on the All-Region team.
This is the second time this season and fifth time in her career that Hoover has earned Miami’s Female Athlete of the Week honor. She last won it for the week of Sept. 8-14, 2014.
